Not much to explain here. I keep a personal depth chart for the USMNT (doesn’t everyone?) and thought I’d keep a copy publicly here, just to make sure I’m good and open to ridicule. I’ll update at irregular intervals.
This is my attempt to place players into Gregg Berhalter’s current system (as near as I can figure it out). Obviously, a new coach or change in system could alter this quite a bit.
Note: I’m kinda done with “Controlling #6s” as you can see from the chart and I hope/think Gregg is too. Let’s just lean into #6s that defend and get the ball to other midfielders/wingers/John Brooks/etc. I reserve the right to change my mind whenever I want though.

Check the Scouting Report link for breakdowns on some of these players and others who have either fallen off or haven’t made it onto the depth chart yet.
Probably the best way to understand why I rate these players as I do would be to read some of the “HalfSpaces Player Grade” articles that I’ve written. Watching the games in that way very much influences what I think of individual players.
For advanced stats or career stats on any or all of these players I’d recommend FBref and Transfermarkt.
