Hype Tracker – Spring 19′ Update

I did the first “Hype Tracker” post back in January with the thought that I’d update it once a month or so. It turns out that Transfermarkt doesn’t update that often. The new plan is to turn this into a quarterly thing.

Players that have been added to the “USMNT Regular” section are:

  • Cory Baird (begrudgingly)
  • Duane Holmes (because it’s my list and I think he should be there and I can add whoever I want)
  • Sean Johnson
  • Jonathan Lewis
  • Nick Lima
  • Jordan Morris
  • Cristian Roldan
  • Tim Ream

Players who have fallen off the list:

  • Russell Canouse
  • Julian Green
  • Marky Delgado
  • Jorge Villafana
  • Kellyn Acosta

To display the data in an aesthetically pleasing manner I had to split the players into three charts. The higher value players (Pulisic, McKennie, Brooks) were messing up the scale for all the other players.

Values are in US Dollars.

So without further preamble, here’s the chart/list:

Notable Items:

Bobby Wood trying to score in the last 18 months

As you can see, most players had at least a small increase. The exceptions are Bobby Wood, Fabian Johnson, and Michael Bradley. If you’ve been paying attention none of this is surprising. Bradley and Johnson are both over 30 and on the decline, while Wood couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat.

The highest riser was Pulisic which is a little odd given his form. He must have gotten a bump due to the high transfer fee Chelsea paid. McKennie had a nice little jump and many other players had minor increases.

I would guess by the time I write the Summer 19′ version Tyler Adams will see a much more substantial increase as well. 5 mil? No chance.

Baby Nats

Not a lot of change in the prospect list. It looks like the prospects are much slower to change/update than more established players. The notable riser in this group is Paxton Pomykal. I still think 500K is way too low but more than tripling your value isn’t all bad. Julian Araujo finally got assigned a value and somehow Sebastian Soto has managed to debut in the Bundesliga without being assigned one.

Again most of the players on the list saw small growth in their value. I’m curious to see if there will be a large update after the U20 World Cup in May.

I didn’t add or subtract anyone from this list since I think it still covers most (if not all) of the major prospects that are near breaking through for first team minutes.

Let me know if you think there were any egregious inclusions/omissions @blharreld.
